How Did The Christmas Tree Tradition Started?

Long before Christmas trees were put up as a decoration, trees and plants that remained green throughout the year are already considered special. Ancient people used to hung evergreens outside their doors because they believed it keeps the witches , evil spirits and ghost away.
Germany is the country to believed that started the tradition. It was in the 16th century when a devoted Christians started bringing Pine tree to their homes, some built a pyramid made of wood and decorated them with evergreen if they were scarce with trees.

During the 19th century, Christmas trees are unaccepted by Americans. Infact in 1659 the general court of Massachusetts enacted a law fining people for having a hanging a hanging decorations unless it is related to a church service. In 1890's Christmas ornaments started to arrived from Germany, this when the popularity of Christmas Tree started among Americans. It was in the 1830's when the first Christmas tree was displayed in the US by a German settler in Pennsylvania.
It is believed that Martin Luther , a German religious leader, was the first person to add lighted candles to a tree. He got the idea when one night during the winter while walking towards his home, he was amazed by the bright stars towards the evergreens.
